YORK, Pa. — Four former Penn State Board of Trustees members have been conferred the rank of trustee emeritus in recognition of their years of meritorious service to the board and the University.
At the Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, July 22, the board granted emeritus status to former trustees Kathleen Casey, Richard Dandrea, Barbara Doran and William Oldsey.
Kathleen Casey, a 1988 alumna of Penn State, was first appointed to the Board of Trustees by then-Gov. Tom Corbett in 2013 and later elected as an at-large trustee in 2015. She served the board in leadership positions including vice chair of the Board, chair of the Committee on Compensation and chair of the Committee on Equity and Human Resources. A former commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, she has extensive career experience in government regulatory, legal and policymaking roles. She works as a senior advisor with Patomak Global Partners and serves as chair of the Financial Accounting Foundation and as a board member of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Penn State and juris doctorate degree from George Mason University School of Law.
Richard Dandrea is a lawyer and 1977 magna cum laude graduate of Penn State. An attorney with the law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellot LLC, he works in product liability defense with an emphasis on pharmaceutical claims. Dandrea was first elected to the Board of Trustees in July 2013 representing business and industry, and he served the board in leadership positions including chair of the Committee on Legal and Compliance. He also serves on the External Advisory Board of the Schreyer Honors College and was a volunteer with Penn State’s Grand Destiny campaign. In addition to a bachelor’s degree from Penn State, Dandrea holds a juris doctorate degree from the George Washington University School of Law.
Barbara Doran graduated from Penn State in 1975 and is the CEO and chief information officer of BD8 Capital Partners LLC, which provides comprehensive wealth and investment management services. First elected to the Board of Trustees by alumni in July 2013, she has served on multiple committees, including as chair of the Committee on Outreach, Development and Community Relations; and as a member of the board’s Executive Committee. A former three-sport varsity athlete at the University, Doran became the first Penn State alumna to make the U.S. lacrosse and field hockey teams, and she has served on the boards and committees of organizations including Outward Bound, MCC Theater, U.S. Field Hockey, U.S. Lacrosse and the Foundation for Child Development. In addition to her bachelor’s degree in English from Penn State, she holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
William Oldsey is a 1976 alumnus of Penn State and the former president McGraw-Hill Education, one of the nation’s largest educational publishing companies. First elected to the board by alumni in 2013, Oldsey served on multiple committees, including as chair of the Committee on Academic Affairs, Research and Student Life. He has served on the corporate boards of the Association of American Publishers, Unigo Education and the McGraw-Hill Diversity and Inclusion Council. A dedicated supporter of Penn State, he has been honored with both the College of Liberal Arts Leaders Award and the Penn State Alumni Fellow Award.
Emeritus status is an honorary designation granted to past board chairs, as well as to other board members who have served for six or more years with distinction and have been recommended by the board’s Committee on Governance and Long-Range Planning. Trustees emeriti draw on their previous board service to provide counsel as needed, and they are invited to attend University events, activities and public meetings of the board. The board chair also can appoint a trustee emeritus to serve as a nonvoting member of certain standing committees.
