Phi Kappa Sigma suspended at minimum four years for hazing violations

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa – On Oct. 24 the Penn State Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response announced the indefinite suspension of the Psi Chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity for hazing violations and conduct prohibited by the University's Anti-Hazing Policy (AD98). The group may request to have the suspension lifted no sooner than fall 2028.

A comprehensive investigation revealed widespread and pervasive hazing behavior occurred within the chapter over several years. Phi Kappa Sigma had previously been found in violation for hazing in 2018; the recent investigation determined that hazing persisted and attempts to address on-going concerns were unsuccessful.

The organization was issued an interim suspension on Sept. 27, which remained in place throughout the student conduct process. The chapter was found in violation and sanctioned to a minimum four-year suspension on Oct. 10. The chapter appealed that decision, which was subsequently denied.

Phi Kappa Sigma International Fraternity has been working closely with university staff throughout the process and is aware of this outcome.

The suspension entails the loss of all privileges as a recognized student organization for the fraternity. The organization is prohibited from participating in, attending, or organizing any functions, activities, or events, including University-wide events, and may not function as a sanctioned organization at Penn State.
